Emerging Potter: Lindsay Rogers

Mugs, Lindsay Rogers, Bakersville, NC

Each year an emerging potter is invited to the Spruce Pine Potters Market. Lindsay Rogers is this years potter. Lindsay is a new resident potter at the crafts studios at the Energy Xchange in Burnsville. The potters and glassblowers at the Xchange use methane from a former landfill to fuel furnaces and kilns. Pretty cool. It is the first in the country. Visit Lindsay's web site here and see more pots in her gallery and read more about this talented young potter.

Here is an excerpt from Lindsay Rogers statement:
There is an excitement I feel in creating something new from the earth that has the potential to hold way more than just my history that I send through my hands. I have been very visually inspired by weathered wood, growing lines, and general markings of time and movement. I am physically inspired by objects I tend with my hands that go on to happen without me.

Lindsay has also just published an essay in The Studio Potter, an unparalleled bi-annual publication about pottery. You can read that article here.

Come visit the Show on the 11th & 12 of October. Lindsay Rogers will have some new pots there, no doubt still warm from the kiln!

Ron's Slide Show

Ron Slagle has put together a slide show of images from the 2007 Potter's Market in Spruce Pine. There were crowded aisles during Saturday and a real excitement throughout the booths. Maria must have been tending the booth while Ron was roaming around with his camera! Thanks Ron!
